The Democratic Party of Korea on Tuesday rejected the People Power Party's request to convene the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee for the Daegu-North Gyeongsang integration bill, announcing it would instead proceed with a plenary vote on bills including the Jeonnam-Gwangju integration special law.
"Today, we will process all bills according to principle, including the National Referendum Act, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integration Special Act, the Local Autonomy Act amendment, and the Child Allowance Act amendment," Democratic Party floor spokesperson Baek Seung-ah said in a written briefing.
Earlier in the day, the People Power Party had requested the Democratic Party convene the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to process the Daegu-North Gyeongsang integration bill. To facilitate this, the opposition party ended its 19-hour filibuster against the National Referendum Act, which aims to guarantee voting rights for overseas Koreans in national referendums.
