Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong said on the 28th regarding the Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran, "President Lee Jae-myung has received a briefing on the Iran situation and is reviewing the domestic impact and related countermeasures," adding that "he has instructed that the safety of Korean nationals in Iran and nearby regions be treated as the top priority."
Defense Minister Ahn Kyu-baek also immediately reviewed the safety status of deployed units including the Dongmyeong and Cheonghae units in connection with the Middle East situation. The Ministry of National Defense spokesperson's office explained, "The ministry has instructed the Ministry of National Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff-related departments to carry out their missions with the safety of unit members as the top priority." The Ministry of National Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff added, "We have confirmed that the safety of overseas deployed units remains secure as of now."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it would hold a situation review meeting chaired by Second Vice Minister Kim Jin-a starting at 7:30 p.m. the same day regarding the Iran situation and the safety of Korean nationals. Through a statement issued in the spokesperson's name, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized, "Our government is closely monitoring the current Iran-related situation and urges all parties to make every effort to ease tensions in the region," adding that "our government is taking all possible measures to ensure the safety of Korean nationals staying in Iran."
