President Lee Jae-myung opened an official account on TikTok, the global short-form video platform, on Feb. 28, launching a new media outreach initiative. The "something big" he had teased the previous day on social media turned out to be a new communication channel aimed at connecting with younger generations.
Lee posted his first video titled "Here Comes the TT President" alongside the account launch. The video shows the president signing a document labeled "TikTok Registration." After signing, Lee greeted viewers: "Hello, TikTok. I'm Lee Jae-myung. You know the drill—follow, like, and comment. I'm counting on you."
The video concluded with Lee striking playful poses, including a finger heart and a "cheek heart" gesture with both hands on his cheeks.
TikTok is a global short-form video platform operated by China's ByteDance.
Lee had stirred curiosity among internet users the previous day by posting on X, formerly Twitter: "February 28, something big (?) is coming." The post included hashtags such as "#LeeJaeMyung," "#Approved," and "#Teaser," signaling his intent to engage with younger audiences on their terms.
With the addition of TikTok, Lee now maintains six social media accounts: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X, a blog, and TikTok.
