Rep. Yoo Young-ha of the People Power Party, who declared his candidacy for Daegu mayor, predicted that party leader Chang Dong-hyuk "is already changing his political line and will soon clearly announce a break from former President Yoon Seok-yeol."
Appearing on SBS's "Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show" on the 27th, Yoo said, "Leader Chang made two points regarding former President Yoon's first trial verdict, but the media only reported one." He continued, "The media covered his call to sever ties with divisive forces, but he also said we must cut off those who exploit the president's name for personal gain."
Yoo interpreted this as a signal that Chang intends to distance himself from pro-Yoon factions seeking the former president's political return.
Yoo predicted Chang would soon express a clear shift in political direction. "I feel Leader Chang is changing even now," he said. "With elections ahead, shouldn't we at least put on a united front among ourselves? I don't believe the party leader thinks he will continue alongside President Yoon in this situation."
Regarding a proposed party-wide vote on the party's political direction, Yoo dismissed the idea. "I don't think that's necessary," he said. "We're about to enter election mode, and when facing a major battle, minor issues should be set aside."
He added, "Constantly highlighting small matters only benefits others. When there's an external fight, we need to put our internal disputes on hold. There's an order of priority, and I believe our lawmakers can recognize that."
