Conflict has reignited over the passage of the "Daegu-Gyeongbuk Administrative Integration Special Act" through the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, as the People Power Party has decided to push forward with the bill.
Legislation and Judiciary Committee Chair Choo Mi-ae is demanding the withdrawal of the filibuster first, while People Power Party Floor Leader Song Eon-seok is pushing back, telling the opposition to "stop being obstinate."
On the 27th, Chair Choo wrote on her Facebook page, "They file filibusters on every agenda item, yet the Vice Speaker from a Daegu constituency and the floor leader from a Gyeongbuk constituency are asking us to convene the Judiciary Committee to process the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration bill."
She added, "While your esteemed members file filibusters and the Vice Speaker refuses to preside to spare himself, our party's Judiciary Committee members are stuck on duty guarding the plenary chamber."
Choo continued, "Floor Leader Song should withdraw the filibuster first. Have you no courtesy, conscience, duty, or shame?"
The People Power Party had previously opposed the integration special act pushed by the Democratic Party, calling it hasty and discriminatory. However, lawmakers with constituencies in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, including Joo Ho-young (Daegu Suseong-gap), objected and reversed their position to support the bill the previous day.
Floor Leader Song fired back: "What's with this sudden filibuster excuse? Your esteemed members held a general assembly during a filibuster, submitted an amendment on the law distortion charge to the plenary, and processed it just fine."
He added, "If the Democratic Party has the will to pass the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration bill, wouldn't Floor Leader Han Byung-do change that one duty rotation?"
Song continued, "Stop deflecting, stop being obstinate, and answer. Will you process the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration bill or not?"
