The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 26th that it will distribute new cold-weather clothing with enhanced insulation that is lighter and more comfortable to all military branches starting next month.
The existing cold-weather gear had poor insulation, often requiring personnel to layer multiple garments. This created discomfort during barracks life and outdoor training activities.
In response, the Ministry of National Defense conducted a combat clothing system quality improvement project from 2020 through last year, developing four types of gear: cold-weather inner layer, cold-weather outer layer, functional cold-weather uniform, and functional combat rain gear.
The new cold-weather clothing features enhanced insulation, wind resistance, moisture permeability, waterproofing, durability, and comfort, while being approximately 20% lighter than previous versions.
The cold-weather inner and outer layers can be worn as linings for the functional cold-weather uniform or as standalone outerwear. The functional combat rain gear was developed to serve not only as rain protection but also as a windbreaker for all four seasons.
