Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said the party will use the fast-track legislative process to advance bills if the People Power Party obstructs legislation in standing committees.
"We are monitoring the progress, number, and content of all bills in committees we chair," Han said at the party's general meeting at the National Assembly on Wednesday. "If there is obstruction in committees chaired by the opposition, we will put everything on the fast-track."
Han also noted that some committees chaired by his own party members are not making sufficient progress despite the party's declaration of a "legislative war" and establishment of a situation room in the floor leader's office.
"I urge members to conduct self-assessments on state agenda legislation and accelerate the process," he said.
After the meeting, Democratic Party spokesperson Kim Hyun-jung said the party plans to shift to an emergency legislative system starting in March.
"We are planning to designate bills for fast-track processing, particularly those stalled in committees chaired by People Power Party members," Kim said.
However, specific bills have not yet been identified. Kim explained that the party is compiling "essential livelihood bills" from each standing committee.
