Rep. Park Sung-joon, who leads the Democratic Party of Korea's "Lawmakers' Group for Dropping Charges Against Lee Jae-myung and Launching a Parliamentary Investigation," dismissed faction controversy surrounding the group as "political framing."
Park, the standing representative of the group, appeared on YTN Radio on the 26th and stated, "Outsiders are dividing us into pro-Lee and anti-Lee groups, but looking at our party structure, everyone in our party is pro-Lee. Where would anti-Lee members be?"
"This is a voluntary gathering. Being voluntary, we cannot simply decide to disband," Park continued. "If someone voluntarily leaves, we just think 'they're leaving.' This isn't some secret society."
On why the group continues despite the party's official launch of a special committee, Park explained, "Our ultimate goal is dropping the charges, but even our primary objective—the parliamentary investigation—hasn't been conducted yet. Many members want to support and monitor whether this goal can be achieved."
Park added, "Our party has had many response committees, but they lacked action plans. We have established guidelines on how to prepare for the parliamentary investigation, scheduling with lawmakers, specifying details, and determining next steps. We served as a driving force for launching the party's official organization."
