Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared on the 26th that he would "root out the weeds of speculation from our land and restore the honest scent of soil through the constitutional principle that only farmers should own farmland."
At the party's policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly, Han stated that "farmland speculation is fueling wealth polarization and regional decline, with even abandoned hillside plots skyrocketing to hundreds of thousands of won per pyeong." He emphasized this was "a natural measure following the president's directive and Article 121 of the Constitution, which establishes the principle that tillers own the land."
"We have established legal and institutional mechanisms to uphold the tiller-owner principle and prevent speculation, including strengthened qualification screening for farmland acquisition and immediate disposal orders when speculative intent is confirmed," Han explained. "If even farmland becomes a target for speculation, not only food security but national security will suffer serious damage."
He pledged that "the Democratic Party will work with the government to implement comprehensive measures ensuring speculators have no foothold in our rural areas."
Regarding the "Special Committee for Investigation into the Yoon Suk-yeol Dictatorial Regime's Organized Indictments and Prosecution Dismissals," launched the previous day as a party body, Han said he personally assumed the chairmanship "to thoroughly uncover the full extent of targeted investigations and organized indictments perpetrated by Yoon Suk-yeol's politicized prosecution."
He characterized the Daejang-dong, Baekhyeon-dong, Wirye New City development, Seongnam FC sponsorship, and Ssangbangwool North Korea cases as "representative cases of fabricated indictments where the political prosecution attempted to conceal the truth with mere strokes of a pen." Han declared that "manipulated investigations and indictments by the political prosecution are serious crimes that violate the Constitution, democracy, and citizens' human rights. We will thoroughly examine numerous fabricated cases through the special committee."
Han also celebrated the KOSPI reaching 6,000, stating "the Korean economy is making unstoppable leaps forward. This is a historic achievement, coming just one month after reaching the 5,000 mark." He noted that "yesterday, when the KOSPI 6,000 era began, the Democratic Party passed the third Commercial Act revision to enhance shareholder value through mandatory treasury stock retirement and strengthen protections for minority shareholders." Han vowed to "usher in the 'Korea Premium era' through remaining capital market reforms, including expansion of stewardship codes."
