Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon revealed that he personally called the CEO of Kintex to request the cancellation of a talk concert by far-right YouTuber Jeon Han-gil.
Speaking to reporters after a nomination committee review at the Democratic Party of Korea headquarters on the 24th, Kim said, "It was absurd that they would hold a far-right political rally, so as Gyeonggi governor, I strongly urged the Kintex CEO to cancel it."
Kim reportedly made a strong request on the 23rd to Kintex CEO Lee Min-woo to cancel the venue rental for the "March 1st Memorial Freedom Concert," commonly known as the "Jeon Han-gil Concert." Gyeonggi Province holds a 33.74% stake in Kintex, and CEO Lee previously served as chairman of the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation, a public institution under the provincial government. The YouTube channel "Jeon Han-gil News" had previously promoted the "March 1st Memorial Freedom Concert" scheduled for March 2nd at Kintex in Goyang.
Kim added, "Kintex made the decision late last night to cancel the Jeon Han-gil concert and notified the organizers. At a time when Gyeonggi Province needs to end this insurrection, we could not tolerate far-right gatherings promoting 'Yoon Again.'"
He continued, "Moreover, the nature of the event was falsely reported, so I believed cancellation was justified. Disguising this as a literary concert constitutes grounds for cancellation."
Kim, who is seeking reelection as Gyeonggi governor, commented on his nomination interview: "I spoke based on my accumulated experience as governor. I've demonstrated my track record as someone who gets things done and solves problems, and I expressed my convictions based on that."
