Presidential spokesperson Lee Kyu-yeon said Monday that former President Yoon Suk-yeol is "accepting the verdict calmly" after receiving a life sentence the previous day.
Lee made the remarks during an appearance on PBC Radio's "Kim Jun-il's News Empathy" when asked about the Blue House's position and atmosphere regarding the ruling.
"The atmosphere is not one of evaluating or devaluing the verdict," Lee said. "The president has not issued a personal statement. He never has. We are not releasing an official position to avoid causing unnecessary misunderstanding."
Lee attributed President Lee Jae-myung's recent approval rating recovery to above 60% largely to real estate and stock market performance.
"Since we delivered a clear message on real estate, support from people in their 70s and 20s, who had been less supportive, has risen significantly," Lee said. "Support has also increased considerably in Daegu, North Gyeongsang, and the Busan-Ulsan-South Gyeongsang region."
He added: "I believe real estate and the KOSPI are giving people a sense of stability and hope."
Lee also defended Unification Minister Chung Dong-young's expression of regret to North Korea over drone incursions during the previous administration and his pledge to present preventive measures.
Responding to criticism from the People Power Party, Lee said: "If presenting preventive measures is called submissive, does that mean they want war? The president speaks from a higher level. Maintaining peace without conflict is more important."
