Joo Hyung-hwan, vice chairman of the Presidential Committee on Aging Society and Population Policy who was appointed under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, was dismissed on Friday.
The Presidential Office said President Lee Jae-myung approved the dismissal of Vice Chairman Joo on the same day.
The vice chairman of the low birthrate committee, a minister-level position, serves a two-year term. The president serves as chairman of the committee, while the vice chairman handles practical affairs.
Vice Chairman Joo was appointed in February last year and his term was set to run until February next year, but he reportedly expressed his intention to resign to the Presidential Office recently.
Previously, Yoo Cheol-hwan, chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission who was also appointed under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, submitted his resignation with one year remaining in his term, and his dismissal was approved the day before on Thursday.
Chairman Yoo and Vice Chairman Joo had not appeared at Cabinet meetings since January 9, which they had customarily attended.
