Incheon Metropolitan City is replacing its political affairs deputy mayor for the third time since the eighth popularly elected administration began.
The city announced Wednesday that it has designated Shin Jae-kyung, chairman of the People Power Party's Namdong-gu Eul district chapter, as the third political affairs deputy mayor. The city plans to formally appoint him after completing background checks and other hiring procedures.
Shin graduated from middle and high school in Incheon. He gained experience in central politics by serving as senior administrative officer at the Presidential Secretariat's General Affairs Office and as an aide to a National Assembly member. He currently serves as a non-standing director of Incheon Urban Development Corporation.
After his appointment, Shin will oversee cooperation with political circles and public communication. He will also handle political coordination with Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority and public corporations.
Shin is the third political affairs deputy mayor under the eighth administration, following inaugural deputy mayor Lee Haeng-sook and deputy mayor Hwang Hyo-jin. The city appears to be reshuffling its political affairs line to produce results in the latter half of the current term.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Hwang Hyo-jin, who recently expressed his intention to resign, will transition to the special advisory group. He will work alongside former deputy mayor Lee Haeng-sook to support the city's development.
