On the 2nd, President Lee Jae-myung celebrated the 1st anniversary of emergency martial law and announced, “We will award meaningful certificates, such as commendations, to citizens who have stopped emergency martial law and protected the order of dedication.” He also emphasized that “I intend to prepare a way to remember the hard work of the people and the spirit of national democracy from generation to generation.”
At the State Council meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office in Seoul on the same day, President Lee stated, “It's been a year already,” and “although the democracy and constitutional order that our people have won with blood faced a major crisis, the revolution of light brought about by the collective intelligence of our people drove away the darkness of the night of civil war and opened the dawn of the Korean democracy shining brightly again.”
President Lee explained, “Our national democratic government, which was born from the Great Revolution of Light, has been working hard to restore people's lives and normalize the country for the past six months,” and “although the start was later than other countries, they smartly finalized tariff negotiations and confirmed the construction of nuclear-powered submarines to raise the country's strategic capabilities to the next level.”
President Lee also said, “The civil economy is also rapidly recovering stability and preparing for further growth,” and “Above all, the strong resilience of our democracy, which was confirmed during this process, is being evaluated as a new hope for global democracy.” At the same time, he raised his voice saying, “We must not stop here,” and “We must fully uncover the darkness of the civil war hidden everywhere and open the door to a truly just national unity.” He added, “We must accelerate the steps towards a new world where people dream of meeting again,” and “we will improve people's lives and pave the way for Korea to take a leap forward again with the great Korean people.”
