Regarding hate and fake news on the 2nd, President Lee Jae-myung pointed out that “it is so bad that the country is going to go to interest rates,” and “it is completely eating away at our society.”
At the State Council meeting held at the President's Office in Yongsan, Seoul on the same day, President Lee raised his voice saying, “There are too many cases where our people are still wisely and enduring it well, but there are too many cases where they attack and organize letters with fake news, fake information, and false information that just doesn't make sense based on common sense.”
After emphasizing the need for a systematic response, President Lee dismissed it by saying, “Even this is freedom of expression, which often raises issues when cracked down, but freedom of expression does not protect even false and fake information.” At the same time, he said, “It is said that documents are being scammed in the name of the president,” and “I think they are neglecting the systematic organization of fake news and fake comments.” He then said, “Manipulating a very small minority by pretending to be a majority destroys the democratic order,” and “it doesn't seem like a single department can solve it,” and ordered “the Ministry of Public Affairs, the police, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Defense to come up with measures at the government level.”
