Regarding Yeoya's agreement on a budget of 728 trillion won for the next year, the People's Power assessed that “although we cannot be 100% satisfied, Yeoya made concessions little by little and reached an amicable compromise.”
Rep. Park Hyung-soo, the secretary of the National Assembly Budget Settlement Special Committee, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the 2nd and stated:
Yeoya continued intense last-minute discussions on the budget by conducting “two-track” negotiations with the Chief Representative and the Preliminary Secretary. As a result, while maintaining the existing budget of 72.8 billion won, an agreement was reached to reduce the amount of 4.3 trillion won and increase the budget for the National Intelligence Resources Management Service disaster recovery system within that range, and the Veterans Meritors' Party.
Congressman Park explained, “The increase will be made within the scope of the reduction,” and “it is not clear what ratio it will be divided, but the registration department will allocate it to the project by considering the annual ratio, etc.”
People's Power initially strongly insisted on reducing the budget for Lee Jae-myung's government's representative policies, such as the Local Love Gift Certificate and the National Growth Fund. However, since the policy was related to the government's national policy, the ruling party did not accept it. Congressman Park said, “I can see that we made concessions on parts such as local love vouchers because they are related to the government's national philosophy,” and “I'm not satisfied with that part.”
When asked about the results of the people's power in this agreement, Congressman Park said, “Basically, the overall budget was not increased,” and “Basically, the basic idea was that this budgeting itself was an expansion finance, and since it was a budget prepared by issuing a deficit debt of 109 trillion won, the basic idea was that there should be no net profit.” He added, “We have provided an opportunity to clean up by cutting budgets for various policy funds that were being run recklessly,” and “it is also significant that we have organized and cut budgets scattered in various places under the name artificial intelligence (AI).”
