BTS Returns: Dream Researcher Analyzes Members' Prenatal Dreams

BTS will make their full-group comeback on June 21 with a concert at Gwanghwamun, Seoul, marking their first complete reunion in three years and nine months. I sincerely welcome the return of BTS, who enjoy the love of their global fan club ARMY. I have been researching the prenatal dreams (taemong) of BTS members. These dreams enable comparative study, allowing us to estimate the scope of what prenatal dreams may suggest about a child's future. This research is possible for two reasons: first, each member has their own prenatal dream; second, since forming in 2013, BTS members have lived relatively similar lives through 2026—achieving record sales of approximately 30 million albums, delivering speeches at United Nations invitations, gracing the cover of Time magazine, and visiting the White House at former President Biden's invitation in 2022. By comparing the prenatal dreams of these seven members who share similar paths to success, we can examine how far such dreams may foresee one's life after birth. **RM (born 1994):** "A snake firmly bit grandmother's ankle in a pepper field." The snake represents an archetypal image symbolizing the fetus. "Firmly biting the ankle" metaphorically suggests the fetus properly implanting in the mother's womb. This dream offers no specific hints about future achievements. **Suga (born 1993):** "A pumpkin climbed over the fence into the house." The pumpkin, an archetypal fetal image, being "witnessed" suggests pregnancy through visual contact. In Korean folklore, pumpkins symbolize luck, fortune, wealth, and creative works—like the proverb "a pumpkin comes vine and all," suggesting blessings entering the household and hinting at achievements. **Jimin (born 1995):** "A shining pepper hung on a tree." The pepper symbolizes not male gender but the fruit of conception. "Shining" suggests the child will achieve bright fame or accomplishments. In prophetic dreams across cultures, "light" symbolizes hope, fame, great achievements, and influence. **Jin (born 1992):** "A golden carp swam into the pregnant mother's embrace." The carp entering the mother's arms predicts smooth pregnancy and delivery. Carp, believed to be king of freshwater fish, symbolizes wealth, honor, popularity, and success. The golden color amplifies these auspicious meanings. **V (born 1995):** "Father played billiards against a dragon and won, receiving a yeouiju (wish-fulfilling jewel)." The dream's setting was the father's billiard hall. The yeouiju—a mystical orb granting any wish in folklore—symbolizes the fetus, suggesting future endeavors will succeed as desired. Here, the dragon serves as messenger announcing pregnancy rather than representing the fetus. **J-Hope (born 1994):** "Mother rode a carriage pulled by three golden horses across a wilderness." This action predicts smooth pregnancy and delivery. Three horses may indicate three children or, for a single child, the number and magnitude of future achievements. The golden horses foretell auspicious and prosperous accomplishments. **Jungkook (born 1997):** "Rain fell on the village, and everywhere raindrops touched turned to gold." Raindrops symbolize the fetus. Water, as life's source, represents wealth, ideology, influence, and foundation. Rain falling across the village suggests influence over one's sphere of activity. Everything turning golden indicates auspicious and prosperous future achievements. These members enjoy fame, achievements, popularity, and wealth along similar life trajectories. Yet each prenatal dream's predictive scope differs. Conclusions from this comparison: First, the most certain element prenatal dreams predict is pregnancy or birth itself. Second, prenatal dreams do not hint at everything a child may achieve. Therefore, even with a relatively ordinary dream like RM's snake dream, one can still achieve great success while growing. Third, similar prenatal dreams do not guarantee identical life paths or comparable achievements. Neurophysiologist Mark Solms, who studies dreams from a neuroscience perspective, states: "Many psychological functions are created through constant interaction between environmental and genetic mechanisms." I agree with Solms. A person's life continuously changes and develops through endless interaction among the prenatal dream's suggestions, post-birth environment, and the individual's will and effort. This aligns with Carl Jung's analytical psychology and folklore perspectives.
