Kakao is expanding the scope of its KakaoTalk electronic document service into the legal sector.
Kakao signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Law&Company and Hana Financial TI to expand electronic document services in the legal field, the company said Monday. The agreement was signed on the 10th of last month at the Law&Company building in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
The three companies plan to build a system for the safe distribution and storage of legal documents and jointly create a digital legal service environment that enhances user convenience.
The MOU was arranged in connection with the "Public-Oriented Mobile Electronic Certification Expansion Project" promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). Kakao will cooperate as a certified electronic document intermediary with Law&Company, which was selected as the project's lead operator, while Hana Financial TI will participate as the operator of the certified electronic document center.
Kakao will provide a KakaoTalk-based channel for sending and receiving electronic documents. Documents prepared by lawyers on Lawtalk, Law&Company's legal service platform, will be delivered to recipients through KakaoTalk electronic documents. The related documents will be stored at Hana Financial TI's certified electronic document center.
"Through this agreement, we have begun to fully expand the scope of the KakaoTalk electronic document service into the legal field," said Lee Jung-beom, leader of Kakao's Wallet Tribe. "We will strive to enhance user convenience through the digital transformation of legal documents and to provide a more stable electronic document usage environment."
