LG Uplus has launched the world's first product offering IPTV service on the iPad, the company said Tuesday.
LG Uplus had previously offered "U+tv Free," a product combining IPTV service with a device (tablet), centered on tablets based on the Android operating system (OS). With the launch of "U+tv Free5 for iPad," its first product applying an iPadOS-based device, the company has broadened device choices.
The service is available only in homes that have activated an Apple iPad A16 through LG Uplus and installed a specific Wi-Fi router. Customers who use the U+ Internet 1G product and the U+tv Premium plan on a three-year contract can watch U+tv on an iPad A16 WiFi 128GB model for a monthly installment of 9,900 won (including value-added tax).
The new product focuses on simultaneously providing mobility and a personalized viewing experience, moving away from the existing fixed viewing environment centered on TVs. According to LG Uplus, it can be used as an alternative to address issues such as one- or two-person households, separate viewing among family members, and the burden of installing additional TVs.
"U+tv Free is a flagship product that has expanded customers' viewing experience by combining tablets and IPTV since 2018," said Oh In-ho, head of LG Uplus's media business division (executive vice president). "Through this iPad-based product, we will provide a new usage experience to a wider range of customers."
