SK Group (034730) Chairman Chey Tae-won met with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu of Taiwan to discuss cooperation aimed at gaining an early lead in the next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure market. In Taiwan, Chey strengthened business ties by meeting the heads of Nvidia and TSMC, followed by the chairman of Foxconn, the world's largest electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company and an AI server original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
According to SK Group on the 4th, Chey, who had visited Taiwan to attend Computex 2026, held a private meeting with Foxconn's Liu and other top executives in Taipei on the 3rd (local time). On the same day, Chey also met with TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei, personally overseeing cooperation with key Taiwanese firms that drive the global AI ecosystem behind the scenes.
Foxconn is a key player in the infrastructure market, supplying AI servers to global big tech firms. As demand for building AI data centers surges, Foxconn's value—backed by its server manufacturing and computing system integration capabilities—is also soaring. Foxconn's market capitalization stands at 4.1 trillion Taiwan dollars (about 199 trillion won), having jumped roughly 88% over the past year.
In the meeting, the two leaders agreed to expand the scope of cooperation beyond AI semiconductors and servers into future new business areas such as robotics, energy storage systems (ESS), and batteries. They judged that combining SK Group's energy technology with Foxconn's solid manufacturing infrastructure could create powerful synergy.
Earlier, Chey met with reporters in Taipei on the 2nd and said, "SK wants to build more AI factories, but we cannot do it alone," adding, "We need many partners and R&D capabilities in Taiwan, and we are looking for numerous AI partners." He also assessed that "Taiwan is capturing the AI momentum very well."
