Lotte Department Store said on the 4th that it will sponsor the Seoul International Eco Film Festival, the nation's largest environmental film festival, in an effort to spread eco-friendly values.
The Seoul International Eco Film Festival is a carbon-neutral film festival first launched in Korea in 2003 by the Korea Green Foundation. It is regarded as one of the world's three major environmental film festivals, alongside the Washington Environmental Film Festival in the United States and CinemAmbiente in Italy.
This year's festival opens on the 5th, World Environment Day, at the Lotte Concert Hall. Through this sponsorship, Lotte Department Store will operate a special screening section called "RE:EARTH." The section will present 10 works addressing various environmental issues, including resource circulation, sustainability, and biodiversity. Featured screenings include "Dust to Dust" by director Kosai Sekine, "People Live Here" by director Gabriel, and "Wasted" by director Tobia Passigato.
Lotte Department Store has made environmental management a core value and is continuously expanding its eco-friendly activities. After becoming the first in the industry to declare environmental management in 2004, it launched the eco-friendly campaign "RE" in 2022, strengthening its ESG management practices. It currently operates resource circulation projects, environmental clean-up activities, and programs to spread an eco-friendly consumption culture.
A Lotte Department Store official said, "It is meaningful that through this sponsorship of the Seoul International Eco Film Festival, we can extend social consensus on the environment and sustainability into cultural content," adding, "We will continue to present content that allows customers to experience eco-friendly values more familiarly, contributing to broadening the base of ESG activities."
