The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said it has launched an investigation after receiving a data breach report from TVING at around 2 a.m. on the 3rd.
TVING, which operates the over-the-top (OTT) streaming service "TVING," was confirmed to have filed the breach report after recognizing on the 2nd that personal information had been leaked through unauthorized access to a database (DB) storing users' personal data. The leaked items include user ID, name, date of birth, gender, connecting information (CI), duplication joining verification information (DI), mobile phone number, email, refund account number, and password (some encrypted).
The PIPC said, "Through requests for data submission, on-site investigations and other measures, we will examine the specific circumstances of the breach, the scale of damage, and compliance with the 'Personal Information Protection Act,' including the obligation to take safety measures and the obligation to notify and report breaches." It added, "If legal violations are found, we plan to take strict action in accordance with the relevant laws."
