Hyundai Home Shopping has introduced automated logistics equipment, including "robotic arms" and "singulators," at its logistics center in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, the company said Tuesday.
The robotic arms pick up multiple products at once and transfer them to unloading conveyor belts. Singulators automatically sort products on conveyor belts so that items can be shipped out one by one in sequence.
Hyundai Home Shopping said it adopted the automation equipment to fit the operating environment of its home shopping logistics. The company explained that the system is designed to handle large volumes of products quickly within a short period, in line with a home shopping business structure where orders for the same product concentrate within specific time slots based on broadcast schedules.
With the new equipment, Hyundai Home Shopping expects the Hwaseong logistics center's hourly processing capacity to expand to as much as 4,000 items, while overall shipping time is projected to be reduced by up to 20% from current levels.
"We made preemptive investments to innovate logistics efficiency and create a safer working environment for our employees amid a rapidly changing distribution environment," a Hyundai Home Shopping official said. "We plan to continue expanding the introduction of cutting-edge automation equipment suited to our logistics environment going forward."
