Korail Distribution announced Tuesday that it is launching four types of cube-shaped assembly blocks called "CUBIK," themed around the Mugunghwa train.
CUBIK is a portmanteau of "Cube" and "Brick." It is an assembly block that takes the form of a cube measuring approximately 10×10×10 cm when completed.
The new product line consists of four types: a train cabin, a station ticket office, a train cockpit, and a railroad crossing. The series breaks down key moments of rail travel — ticketing, boarding, operation, and crossing — into individual, standalone cubes. When connected, the four pieces can be arranged to depict a single railroad story.
The series was developed based on the popularity of the "Mugunghwa Train Model Block," which has ranked as the top-selling item at "Korea Train Mates," a specialty store for railway goods. While the existing product focused on the train's exterior, CUBIK captures the spaces and moments of overall rail travel in three dimensions. Once assembled, the cubes can also be used as interior decor items.
The product will be sold starting in June at the "Korea Train Mates" store in Seoul Station. The price is 19,000 won per unit. In mid-June, 12 additional new railway goods, including keycap keyrings, will also be launched.
"Through cube-shaped blocks that allow customers to enjoy both assembly and display at the same time, people will be able to experience railways in a more familiar way," said Lee Seung-yeon, head of the Railway Goods TF at Korail Distribution.
