CJ CheilJedang said Wednesday it will showcase cocktails made with Munbaeju and Gamuchi soju at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, a PGA Tour regular event.
THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson is a golf tournament held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, from the 21st to the 24th of this month.
At last year's tournament, CJ CheilJedang drew attention from local spectators by presenting four Munbaeju-based cocktails along with K-food items such as Bibigo dumplings. Munbaeju, a distilled liquor made from grains including millet and sorghum, is known for its distinctive pear aroma, and was first introduced to the Texas market through THE CJ CUP last year.
CJ CheilJedang is also accelerating efforts to globalize Korean traditional liquor. In November last year, the company filed a trademark application for the premium distilled liquor brand "jari" in collaboration with small and medium-sized domestic breweries. The brand name was inspired by "jari," a Korean word meaning a space where people gather, reflecting the hope that Korean traditional liquor will naturally find its place in the daily lives of people around the world.
To this end, CJ CheilJedang is conducting traditional liquor aging work using Munbaeju and Gamuchi soju stock at an aging facility built in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, in cooperation with Munbaeju Brewery and Danong Bio. In the second half of this year, the company plans to release new products jointly developed with domestic breweries to target US consumers who enjoy pairing culture with K-food.
"We will work to advance the traditional liquor industry and expand mutual growth so that Korean-style distilled liquor can establish itself as a representative Asian liquor category, like Japanese sake and Chinese baijiu," a CJ CheilJedang official said.
