Doosan Enerbility (034020.KS) said Tuesday its first-quarter operating profit on a consolidated basis rose 63.9% year-on-year to 233.5 billion won ($170 million).
Revenue climbed 13.7% over the same period to 4.26 trillion won ($3.1 billion). The company attributed the improved profitability to higher revenue at subsidiaries including Doosan Bobcat (241560.KS) and Doosan Fuel Cell, along with increased sales of nuclear power equipment and gas turbines at Doosan Enerbility itself.
Doosan Enerbility also sustained strong order momentum at home and abroad, centered on gas turbines and steam turbines. The Enerbility division, including overseas subsidiaries, posted cumulative first-quarter orders of 2.79 trillion won, up 61.9% from a year earlier.
The order backlog stood at 24.13 trillion won as of the end of the first quarter, a 46% increase year-on-year. Notably, the company secured successive orders for gas turbines and steam turbines for data centers in North America. Doosan Enerbility expects to achieve a total of 13.3 trillion won in orders by year-end, including the Czech nuclear power plant construction project, a small modular reactor (SMR) main equipment supply contract, overseas combined-cycle gas engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects, and offshore wind.
The company plans to maintain stable growth based on rising demand for gas turbines driven by the expansion of the North American data center market and the full-scale development of its nuclear power and SMR businesses. "We will expand our gas turbine and steam turbine businesses in key markets including North America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, while strengthening our mid- to long-term earnings base through long-term service businesses," a Doosan Enerbility official said.
