
The South Korean government is moving to establish a strategy for expanding the agentic artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) said Thursday it held a workshop with relevant organizations in Seoul and will formulate and announce an "Agentic AI Ecosystem Development Strategy" within the first half of this year. Agentic AI refers to AI that understands users' complex commands and autonomously carries out tasks. The government launched the "Agentic AI Alliance" on the 1st of this month to support a national-level agentic AI ecosystem.
The workshop brought together subcommittee leaders NC AI, LG AI Research, Kakao, and Soongsil University's AI Safety Research Center, along with secretariat organizations including the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), and the AI Safety Institute (AISI). Participants discussed the agentic AI ecosystem development strategy being prepared for completion in the first half of this year. The government and participating institutions plan to conduct multifaceted reviews of implementation strategies, including expanding AI agent use, building a foundation of safety and trust, strengthening agentic AI technology competitiveness, and developing agentic AI infrastructure.
