POSCO E&C is moving to create an environment where field workers can actively exercise their right to stop work.
POSCO E&C announced on the 8th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Safety and Health Agency for the training of "Safety Partners." Safety Partners are safety education experts who communicate at workers' eye level, leading the activation of the right to stop work and the spread of safety culture.
This agreement was pursued to implement a worker-centered autonomous safety culture in the field, in line with the Ministry of Employment and Labor's policy to guarantee workers' three major rights: the right to know, the right to participate, and the right to avoid danger. Under the agreement, the Korea Safety and Health Agency will provide consulting for training safety education experts. POSCO E&C plans to secure its own safety education experts and work to establish the right to stop work as a natural right at work sites.
The trained Safety Partners will be systematically responsible for "safety sovereignty" education so that workers can stop work without hesitation in dangerous situations. Through this, the company plans to establish a culture where workers stop work immediately upon recognizing danger and create an active work environment where they act safely. Additionally, the company plans to enhance workers' understanding of the right to stop work and encourage voluntary participation by utilizing various educational content such as easily accessible safety education videos and visualized signage at work sites.
"Safety Partners will build strong trust with workers at the field and serve as a bridge to create safe workplaces. We will definitely establish a safety culture where the right to stop work is exercised as a rightful entitlement for workers," said Lee Dong-ho, Head of Safety Planning at POSCO E&C.
