Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced Wednesday that it will accelerate the supply of 4,000 housing units by applying private-participation public housing projects to four idle sites in central Seoul, including the Sungkyunkwan University baseball field in Dobong-dong.
Under the "Housing Supply Expansion Plan" announced by the government on September 7 last year, LH will first apply private-participation projects to two sites with favorable construction conditions among the four idle sites in Seoul: the Sungkyunkwan University baseball field (2,100 units) and the Wirye commercial land (999 units).
Private-participation projects are jointly implemented by LH and private construction companies. This approach incorporates private sector technology and the latest design trends while accelerating project timelines by pursuing design and construction simultaneously.
The bidding process for the Sungkyunkwan University baseball field site began Tuesday. The site is located in a prime transit area adjacent to Dobong Station on Subway Line 1 and Suraksan Station on Line 7. Reflecting demand from young adults, 391 of the 2,100 units will be supplied as youth-specialized housing. The Wirye commercial land, scheduled for bidding mid-month, is located within 500 meters of Geoyeo Station on Line 5 and can utilize the living SOC facilities of Wirye New Town.
LH plans to begin bidding in April, complete contractor selection by June, finish housing project approval procedures within the year, and proceed with subsequent steps targeting construction start in the first half of next year.
Procedures for the remaining idle sites are also underway, targeting construction start in 2028. The former Korea Educational Development Institute site in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu (approximately 60,000㎡, 700 units) has been proposed for designation as the "Seoul Yangjae Public Housing District," while negotiations with local governments are ongoing for public facility sites in Gangseo-gu.
"As we have implemented private-participation projects that can add private sector technology to idle sites in prime locations in central Seoul, we will proceed with related procedures to supply high-quality public rental housing as quickly as possible," said Oh Joo-hun, Head of LH's Public Housing Division.
