SK Telecom said Monday it carried out a tree-planting campaign with Yuhan-Kimberly on Sunday in the Pungcheon-myeon area of Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, to create a "Peace Forest" in a region devastated by wildfire.
Pungcheon-myeon was hit by a massive wildfire in March last year, making ecological restoration support urgent. About 100 employees and family members from SK Telecom and Yuhan-Kimberly voluntarily participated in the event. Participants planted a total of 1,500 trees, including rare species designated by the Korea Forest Service such as Oriental raisin trees, Abeliophyllum distichum, and yellow-patterned iris, contributing to the restoration effort.
The two companies signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MOU) in September last year to strengthen ESG practices. Since then, they have continued joint efforts across various areas including forest creation in wildfire-damaged regions, resource recycling campaigns, and marketing cooperation. They plan to plant a total of 10,000 trees over five years through 2030 and pursue a long-term, systematic restoration strategy utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The campaign was conducted in partnership with Peace Forest, a non-governmental organization specializing in forest ecosystem restoration.
