KT (030200.KS) CEO Park Yun-young has decided to consolidate the company's artificial intelligence model development organizations and entrust leadership to an outside executive. The major overhaul of KT's AI organization is seen as a move to accelerate the company's previously sluggish AI technology advancement. Competition in AI across models, services, and all other areas is expected to intensify among telecom carriers.
Choi Jeong-gyu, head of the Agentic AI Group (senior vice president) at LG AI Research, has been tapped as the head of KT's AX Future Technology Lab, according to telecom industry sources on Sunday. The AX Future Technology Lab is a newly reorganized AI research and development unit established by CEO Park to lead AI model and service development. Choi contributed to LG AI Research's advancement to the second phase of Korea's sovereign AI foundation model project, and he is expected to focus on enhancing KT's proprietary AI capabilities in his new role.
