EcoPro HN, the environmental solutions arm of EcoPro (086520.KQ), will supply selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems for heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) at the Tongxiao liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in Taiwan. The company plans to expand into the global clean energy generation market based on its technology for eliminating harmful nitrogen oxides at power plants.
EcoPro HN announced it has signed a contract with BHI, a heat recovery steam generator manufacturer, for the Tongxiao LNG power plant SCR project in Taiwan. The total contract value is 23.9 billion won ($17.6 million), equivalent to approximately 17% of the company's revenue last year.
A heat recovery steam generator is a clean energy facility that recycles high-temperature exhaust gas heat discharged after electricity generation from LNG gas turbines to produce additional electricity. The SCR systems supplied by EcoPro HN convert nitrogen oxides (NOx), an air pollutant generated during the HRSG power generation process, into harmless water and nitrogen.
Heat recovery steam generators reach the height of a 15-story apartment building. Purifying the enormous volume of exhaust gas passing through such a massive structure in real time requires highly advanced engineering capabilities.
This order is significant in that BHI, a major player in the global HRSG market, has recognized EcoPro HN's environmental equipment technology and quality competitiveness. EcoPro HN is an environmental specialist that has provided air quality and greenhouse gas reduction solutions since its founding as EcoPro's environmental business division in 1998. The company began accumulating core technologies with research on perfluorocompound (PFC) decomposition catalysts in 2001 and gained recognition for its capabilities by winning the Korea Technology Grand Award in 2010.
"This order is the result of firmly proving our technological capabilities in the overseas power generation market," an EcoPro HN official said. "We will further expand our SCR business in the global LNG power generation market, which is expected to grow to 300 trillion won by 2030."
