Carnmore, a global rental car platform, announced on the 31st that it is launching a "rental car shuttle bus control service" on Ulleungdo, a first in the industry.
Travelers to Ulleungdo, a remote island in the East Sea, arrive at various ports on the island — including Dodong, Jeodong, and Sadong — by passenger ferry. They must then board a shuttle bus operated by their reserved rental car company to reach the vehicle pickup location. Finding the right shuttle bus and checking wait times has been a persistent inconvenience. To address this, Carnmore partnered with Ulleungdo Rent Car, a major local rental car operator, to install terminals on shuttle buses and build a system that syncs with its app in real time.
Travelers can now check the current location and estimated arrival time of their shuttle bus in real time through the Carnmore app as soon as they arrive at the port, without needing to contact the rental car company separately. After returning their vehicles, passengers can also monitor shuttle bus movements on a dedicated shuttle control TV screen installed at the car depot.
"We introduced the real-time control service so that visitors can feel at ease from the moment they step onto the unfamiliar shores of Ulleungdo's ports," Park Ki-ho, CEO of Ulleungdo Rent Car, said. A Carnmore official said, "Through the combination of technology, we will provide a high-quality mobility experience on Ulleungdo that is on par with the mainland, and we will continue to expand services tailored to regional characteristics."
Rental car reservation services in the Ulleungdo area are offered intensively from early March through the end of October each year. Users can download the Carnmore app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, select the Ulleungdo area, and reserve local vehicles in real time.
