Webtoon Entertainment, the parent company of Naver Webtoon, is upgrading its platform for amateur webtoon creators worldwide.

Webtoon Entertainment announced on the 27th that it will begin consolidating 'Canvas' into a single global platform within the first half of the year. Canvas is a user-generated content (UGC) platform operated by Webtoon Entertainment, serving as a stage for amateur webtoon creators around the world. It currently operates separately in seven languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Indonesian, Thai and Traditional Chinese. The consolidation is expected to connect creators with a larger global readership while giving users access to a richer pool of content.

At a press conference held in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul on the 17th, Webtoon Entertainment had previously disclosed plans for a Canvas overhaul aimed at strengthening UGC as part of expanding its 'flywheel' strategy, in which creators, content and users feed a virtuous cycle.

The key elements of the overhaul are: △an 'opt-in translation program' that allows works to be published in multiple languages, △a 'dashboard' that lets creators monitor their work's performance at a glance, and △a 'personalized recommendation feature' that connects more users with Canvas works matching their tastes.

The opt-in translation program supports publishing Canvas works in up to seven languages. It covers all languages available on Canvas except those for Korea's 'Dojeon Manhwa' and Japan's 'Indiz,' which operate as separate amateur platforms. When a Canvas creator selects whether to translate a given work and chooses preferred languages, AI technology automatically translates it for immediate viewing in those languages. Individual amateur creators can expose their works to Canvas readers worldwide, expand their reach and build a global fandom without investing additional time or money.

A pilot will launch in the first half of 2026 with select English-language Canvas works, with phased expansion to other language services planned within the year. The program operates on an 'opt-in' basis, meaning creators decide whether to translate and into which languages, and can withdraw at any time.

As works can now reach audiences across multiple languages, a dashboard will also be provided for creators to view their performance at a glance. It offers detailed analytics including view counts and subscriber numbers, enabling creators to pursue strategic creative activities. A feature that lets creators view and manage comments written in multiple languages in one place also allows efficient fandom management.

The personalized recommendation feature helps Canvas works from various language regions connect with readers across borders and languages. Users will be able to more easily discover and experience Canvas works that match their personal tastes.

"Canvas is more than a platform — it is the starting point of a career where someone's idea becomes a great story and leads to a massive fandom," said Yongsoo Kim, President of Webtoon Entertainment. "Webtoon Entertainment will be a steadfast partner helping creators unleash their talents on the world stage."
