Naver Webtoon said Wednesday that its U.S. headquarters, Webtoon Entertainment (WBTN, NASDAQ), was ranked fourth in the "Media and News" category of Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies 2026" list.
The recognition marks the company's second appearance on the list, following its eighth-place overall ranking and first-place finish in the "Media" category on the 2023 list.
Fast Company, a U.S. business publication covering technology, management, economics, business and design, has published its annual rankings since 2008, selecting companies that have built creative business models and innovative cultures. The list features the world's top 50 innovative companies along with rankings across 59 industries and sectors.
Fast Company cited Webtoon Entertainment's successful construction of a two-way ecosystem — expanding webtoons into Hollywood intellectual property while simultaneously adapting major global IP into webtoon format — and its robust content ecosystem as reasons for the selection.
Webtoon Entertainment has been recognized for creating a platform and ecosystem where anyone can easily share their stories with readers worldwide, generating a cultural movement. Through its "Flywheel" strategy — a virtuous cycle connecting creators, content and users — the company has grown webtoons into a new category within the global entertainment industry.
Webtoon Entertainment's intellectual property business is also producing growing results in global markets. The English-language original webtoon "Stagtown" is set for a live-action adaptation by LuckyChap, the production company founded by actress Margot Robbie. A screen adaptation of "Death of a Popstar," involving Oscar-winning screenwriter and producer Diablo Cody, is also underway. In animation, the company is collaborating with Crunchyroll, Toei Animation, Aniplex and Warner Bros. Animation. Amazon's Prime Video recently confirmed production of an animated series based on the hit English-language original webtoon "Lore Olympus."
Based on its strong IP and creative ecosystem, Webtoon Entertainment distributed a total of 4.15 trillion won ($3.1 billion) in revenue to creators worldwide from 2021 through 2025. The company plans to invest more than 70 billion won this year in discovering new works and supporting creators.
"This achievement is a recognition of the competitiveness of our IP, which is leaping forward as next-generation franchises based on the long-standing efforts to expand the digital storytelling ecosystem together with our creator community and our global fandom," said Yong-soo Kim, president of Webtoon Entertainment.
