WemadeMax, a subsidiary of Korean game developer Wemade, is transitioning from a co-CEO system to a sole CEO structure.
The company announced Thursday that Son Myeon-seok will serve as the sole chief executive. Former co-CEO Lee Gil-hyung will step down from the co-CEO role but remain a member of WemadeMax's board of directors while focusing on managing subsidiary Lightcon.
The restructuring aims to strengthen execution of the company's "2026 Global Portfolio Company" strategy announced earlier this year. WemadeMax has built a diversified growth structure spanning genres, platforms and regions based on a five-core-studio system. The shift to a single CEO is intended to accelerate decision-making on key intellectual properties and strategic projects.
Lightcon, one of Wemade's five studios, is pursuing global expansion in the casual game genre through rapid market validation and iterative development. The studio is currently preparing a new title based on the "Wind Runner" IP and a roguelike project. It also plans to streamline project structures and optimize organizational operations to bolster its casual game portfolio.
Separately, Park Jeong-su, CEO of Wemade Next, is resigning for personal reasons. The company has appointed Sung Jeong-guk, a development director overseeing the creation of "Mir 5," as the new CEO of Wemade Next. Sung previously served as project director for "Mir 4" and is regarded as a key developer who has led the development of the Mir IP. The Mir 5 team is currently reviewing its development direction and refining strategy to enhance the project's completeness.
"This transition is designed to enhance strategic execution through strengthened accountability and role realignment," Son said. "We will further bolster global competitiveness by focusing on core IPs and strategic projects while maintaining each studio's autonomy and expertise."
