Omdia, a UK-based global market research firm, has highlighted SK Telecom's (017670.KS) strategy for building sovereign AI infrastructure through GPU optimization and monetization as a leading global case study in its latest report.
According to SKT on Wednesday, Omdia stated in its report titled "Sovereign AI Infrastructure: SK Telecom rethinks its cloud tech stack to address GPU monetization," published on the 18th of this month, that "SKT has established a strong position in sovereign AI implementation by addressing the challenge of AI infrastructure optimization, effectively solving problems that telecom operators worldwide are facing ahead of others."
In particular, Omdia noted how SKT independently resolved longstanding challenges in AI infrastructure through its "Haein Cluster" and "Petasus AI Cloud."
Haein is a high-performance GPU infrastructure consisting of more than 1,000 NVIDIA B200 units equipped with Nvidia's next-generation AI accelerator chip "Blackwell," configured as a single cluster. It provides a stable computing environment optimized for large-scale AI model training and inference. Haein also incorporates SKT's proprietary virtualization solution, Petasus AI Cloud, which enables on-demand partitioning and reconfiguration of GPU clusters to maximize utilization rates.
Omdia also noted that SKT overcame challenges in improving GPU resource utilization and security in multi-tenancy environments through its proprietary virtualization technology. The firm assessed that "by going beyond simple GPU leasing to achieve a structure that simultaneously addresses security and efficiency, SKT has secured competitiveness in AI infrastructure."
