Kim Dong-ha, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Nanoscience at Ewha Womans University, has been named the March recipient of the Korea Scientist and Engineer of the Month Award.
The award is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and jointly organized by the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Seoul Economic Daily.
The ministry and foundation selected Kim in recognition of March marking the birth month of Albert Einstein, who elucidated the nature of light through quantum theory of light. Kim was chosen for developing next-generation supramolecular chiral optical material technology that precisely controls the properties of light at the nanoscale, opening new horizons in optics and nanotechnology.
Kim is a leading authority in convergence research spanning nanomaterial science. His development of a supramolecular chiral platform that achieves high-efficiency circularly polarized light across the entire visible spectrum, including red wavelengths, garnered significant attention after being published in Science, the world's most prestigious academic journal, in 2025.
