Shinhan Investment Corp. will nominate former Financial Services Commission Chairman Kim Seok-dong as a new outside director at this year's shareholders' meeting.
According to the financial investment industry on Monday, Shinhan Investment will put forward an agenda item for "appointment of outside directors and auditors," including former Chairman Kim, at its annual general meeting scheduled for March 24. The related board meeting was held on Feb. 26.
Kim entered public service through the 23rd Senior Civil Service Examination after graduating from Gyeonggi High School and Seoul National University's business administration department. He served as director-general of financial policy at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, head of the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit, and vice minister before serving as FSC chairman for two years starting in 2011.
"Candidate Kim is an expert in finance and economics," a Shinhan Investment official said. "We determined he is the right person to balance the interests of the company and stakeholders based on his extensive policy experience and crisis management capabilities."
Meanwhile, alongside former Chairman Kim, Kang Hyun-jung, representative of law firm Kim & Chang, has also been nominated as a new outside director. Among the current outside directors, Kim Kyung-han, CEO of Consumer Times, is the only one to be reappointed. Cho Sung-pyo, visiting chair professor at DGIST, and Lee Yong-kuk, full-time professor at Handong University's International Law School, will be newly appointed as outside directors serving on the audit committee.
