Bright Energy Partners (BEP) announced it has been selected as the preferred bidder for a 162MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project through the Korea Power Exchange's second ESS central contract market competitive bidding for 2025, forming a consortium with Korea Southern Power Co.
The projects awarded through this second bidding round are large-scale BESS facilities to be built in Haenam, South Jeolla Province (96MW) and Jindo, South Jeolla Province (66MW). Previously, the BEP-Southern Power consortium was selected as preferred bidder for a 48MW BESS project in Jindo through the first ESS central contract market competitive bidding for 2025. Including the preceding Jeju Andeok BESS project (23MW), BEP's cumulative central contract market BESS orders now total 233MW.
BEP has been building experience in central contract market long-duration BESS operations since participating in Jeju's long-duration BESS pilot project in November 2023. Through this experience, the company has enhanced capabilities across the entire process from project development to design, construction, and operations management. This consecutive contract win is seen as a tangible result of accumulated expertise.
Following stable expansion of renewable energy generation and EV charging infrastructure businesses, BEP is strengthening its foundation as a "total clean energy company" connecting renewable energy production, storage, and supply by expanding its BESS business in earnest.
