The Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) announced on the 22nd that it has reorganized and strengthened its organizational functions around "AI Transformation (AX)."
The restructuring expands the existing program manager (PM) system, previously centered on AI and AI semiconductors, into four major areas: AI, AI semiconductors, AX convergence, and physical AI. The reorganization aims to strengthen the AI research and development (R&D) planning framework and respond more actively to policy and industrial demands.
Notably, a Physical AI Team and an AI Foundation Team have been newly established. The Physical AI Team will serve as a dedicated unit for planning and supporting technology development that applies AI to the real world. The AI Foundation Team will plan and support the collection, refinement, and supply of data that determines AI performance and development acceleration.
IITP also expanded its AI talent development functions. The institute explained that it has created and strengthened roles related to AX graduate programs, AI and digital-based entrepreneurship graduate programs, and AI-focused universities within the organization.
Additionally, IITP strengthened the AI Technology Team's functions to plan and support next-generation AI technology development, including artificial general intelligence (AGI) and artificial superintelligence (ASI). The former Digital Society Innovation Team has been reorganized into the AI Safety and Trust Team to enhance response capabilities against AI-related crimes.
IITP President Hong Jin-bae said, "Through this reorganization, we will establish South Korea as one of the top three AI powerhouses and create tangible results that citizens can experience."
