Metaverse gaming platform Roblox has removed "That Day at the National Assembly" from its platform following controversy over the game's distortion of the December 3 martial law incident.
According to gaming industry sources on the 20th, Roblox deleted the experience from its platform on the 19th. The metaverse game, set against the backdrop of the December 3, 2024 emergency martial law declaration, was uploaded to the Roblox platform earlier this month. The game sparked controversy as it allowed users to take on roles as martial law soldiers and police officers and shoot other users playing civilians.
Roblox stated that the game was removed after review for violating its community guidelines. A Roblox spokesperson explained, "Our community guidelines prohibit discussion or depiction of content related to political figures and organizations. This includes content related to political candidates currently running for or who have recently run for public office, as well as related slogans, campaign materials, rallies, or events."
The spokesperson added, "We are committed to building a platform where users of all ages can have positive experiences based on civic awareness."
In 2024, Roblox also faced backlash when "That Day in Gwangju," a game distorting the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, was uploaded to the platform. The May 18 Memorial Foundation filed a police complaint against the creator, and Roblox issued an apology before removing the game.
