Naver Pay said a payment system outage on the 19th was caused by an internal database failure, not an external cyberattack.
"The cause was identified as a DB system failure due to an internal logic error," a Naver Pay spokesperson said on the 20th.
The payment service experienced disruptions for approximately two to three hours starting at noon the previous day. Affected functions included in-store point and money payments, point inquiries and payments at checkout, transaction and event history lookups, and Pay Money Card payments.
Naver Pay restored payment services by 2:20 p.m. that day and implemented queue management measures to prevent system overload. The company lifted these measures at around 3:30 p.m.
"We are still assessing the extent of the damage," the spokesperson said, declining to comment on potential compensation for affected users.
