Hancom (030520) announced on the 19th that it has signed a contract to supply its artificial intelligence facial recognition solution "Hancom AUS" to Cyberlinks, a publicly listed Japanese cloud services company. This contract marks Hancom's first overseas AI revenue.
Cyberlinks is a mid-sized Japanese company specializing in cloud services for the public and retail sectors. As a platform operator for Japan's Public Key Infrastructure (JPKI) service utilizing the My Number Card—the government's official identification—the company has established a dominant position in Japan's identity verification market. Through this contract, Cyberlinks has selected Hancom as a strategic partner to advance its non-face-to-face identity verification (eKYC) services.
Hancom AUS, to be supplied to the Japanese market, was developed based on technology from FacePhi, a Spanish AI biometrics company in which Hancom made a strategic investment. The solution features world-class facial recognition technology, including a liveness detection function that identifies forged or manipulated faces in real time.
Hancom plans to accelerate its expansion into Japan following this contract with Cyberlinks. After establishing a Japanese subsidiary, the company also plans to finalize a joint venture with Kiraboshi Financial Group, a mid-sized Japanese financial group. Going forward, Hancom intends to increase profitability of its local operations through the Japanese JV and pursue business opportunities across all sectors.
"Starting with Japan, we will actively target the global AI market," said Hancom CEO Kim Yeon-su.
