Kakao Corp. (035720) is running a promotion offering OpenAI's ChatGPT Pro subscription at one-tenth of the regular price, signaling deeper collaboration between the two companies.
According to industry sources on the 13th, Kakao has been selling "ChatGPT Pro 1-month vouchers" for 29,000 won ($20) through KakaoTalk's gift shop since the 12th. ChatGPT Pro is the highest tier among ChatGPT's paid memberships, capable of handling complex data analysis, lengthy report writing, and code generation and verification.
The monthly subscription for ChatGPT Pro in South Korea costs $200 (approximately 288,500 won) when paid through the web. Purchasing through KakaoTalk's gift service allows users to access ChatGPT Pro at one-tenth the price. However, purchases are limited to five vouchers per person.
Industry observers view this promotion as part of efforts to strengthen the partnership between Kakao and OpenAI. Kakao deepened its cooperation with OpenAI last year by launching "ChatGPT for Kakao," which enables ChatGPT access within KakaoTalk. The service has attracted 8 million users since its launch in October last year.
"We plan to further strengthen the connection between KakaoTalk's conversational context and ChatGPT, and sequentially introduce various ChatGPT-based AI features within the platform," said Kakao CEO Jeong Shin-ah.
