Kakao Entertainment announced on January 12 that it will release a webtoon remake of "Blue Angel" by Lee Hyun-se, a master of Korean comics.
The webtoon "Blue Angel Reboot" by Lee will debut on Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon starting January 13. The remake marks the series' return 35 years after the original graphic novel was published, bringing the story to a new generation of readers. Originally published in 1991, "Blue Angel" follows Ha Ji-ran, a tough and charismatic female detective navigating crime scenes in a brutal underworld.
"Blue Angel Reboot" is set in the same universe and follows Ha Ji-ran's revenge story as she regains her youth after facing death at the moment of retirement. To coincide with the release, Kakao Page will also publish 20 of Lee's past hit works in graphic novel format, including "High School Foreign Legion," "Police," and "Fly High, Magpie."
"I am presenting this story from the past anew under the name 'Reboot,' fitting for 2026," Lee said. "I drew 'Blue Angel Reboot' with the fierce determination that this could be my last webtoon. I hope readers will enjoy it."
