Kakao announced on the 12th that it will partner with Google to advance its artificial intelligence services.
Kakao CEO Jeong Shin-ah made the announcement during the company's annual earnings conference call, stating, "We have agreed to begin global collaboration in earnest to deliver next-generation AI experiences on devices, which is the area Kakao will focus on starting this year. I am announcing for the first time here the strategic partnership between Kakao and Google."
Jeong emphasized, "As the starting point of this partnership, we are beginning collaboration with Google Android to further advance the on-device AI services we launched last year with 'Kanana in KakaoTalk.' As we are working directly with the Android development team, we expect to find various possibilities in on-device AI services that can maximize the value of data assets within the Kakao ecosystem."
Kakao will also partner with Google Cloud to strengthen its AI infrastructure. Jeong added, "As Kakao is the only company in Korea that can effectively utilize Tensor Processing Units, we are also in discussions with Google Cloud about operating cloud services at a meaningful scale. We are also beginning collaboration on Google's upcoming AI glasses."
