Kakao Games announced on February 11 that it recorded consolidated revenue of approximately 465 billion won last year. Annual revenue decreased about 26% year-over-year, with an operating loss of approximately 39.6 billion won.
Fourth-quarter revenue came in at approximately 98.9 billion won, down about 26% from the previous year, with an operating loss of roughly 13.1 billion won.
The company attributed these results to a gap in new game releases and expanded global investments. Kakao Games emphasized that it has been scaling back non-core businesses and restructuring operations around its core gaming segment to strengthen its structural foundation.
This year, the company plans to leverage flexible resource management to expand into new genres and platforms including PC online and console gaming. In particular, Kakao Games aims to secure growth momentum by building a pipeline targeting global markets from the second half of the year, following completion and market validation of major game titles.
In the first quarter, the company will launch "SMiniz," a mobile casual game featuring artists from SM Entertainment, adding a global fandom casual genre to its lineup. Subsequently, major new titles "Odin Q" and "ArcheAge Chronicle" will extend core intellectual properties including "Odin" and "ArcheAge" to global platforms such as PC online and console.
Additionally, Kakao Games plans to sequentially unveil new titles including strategy adventure RPG "Dungeon Arise," 2.5D MMORPG "Project OQ," open-world zombie survival simulator "God Save Birmingham," and subculture simulation game "Project C."
"Based on the restructuring we have undertaken, we plan to bring our new titles in development to fruition," said Han Sang-woo, CEO of Kakao Games. "We will concentrate our capabilities on game development and strive to deliver well-made new titles diversified across platforms, genres, and regions, as well as expanding our proprietary IPs."
