U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Wednesday, local time, that it had launched a third consecutive night of airstrikes targeting Iran.
CENTCOM said on X (formerly Twitter) that "at approximately 4:45 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, at the direction of the commander in chief, we began a third consecutive day of strikes against Iran."
CENTCOM asserted that "these strikes will inflict significant damage on the Iranian military and degrade Iran's ability to attack innocent civilians and merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz."
CNN, citing U.S. officials, reported that the targets included Iranian military assets such as coastal surveillance systems and drone and missile stockpiles.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump appeared by phone on the conservative radio program "The Hugh Hewitt Show" and warned, "Tonight we're going to hit them very hard, and tomorrow we're going to hit them very hard," adding, "There's nothing they can do."
The United States resumed airstrikes on the 7th and 8th in response to Iran's attacks on merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. After Iran launched further attacks on merchant ships, the U.S. carried out strikes for two consecutive days starting on the 11th and conducted additional strikes on Wednesday as well.
