As global pop star Taylor Swift (36) and National Football League (NFL) player Travis Kelce (36) held a lavish wedding estimated at 75 billion won, even trash collected near the wedding venue has been sold as souvenirs, drawing attention.
According to AFP on the 8th, New York-based artist Justin Gignac collected discarded items such as cigarette butts and water bottle caps from the streets near the venue after the couple's wedding ended on the 3rd, and put them up for sale.
Swift and Kelce held their wedding at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York. However, the items Gignac collected were not from inside the wedding venue but were trash found on the streets around the event site.
Gignac sealed the collected trash inside small transparent plastic cubes to prevent odors from leaking or contents from spilling. He then offered them under the name "New York City Garbage sculptures."
"There are many Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) who want to have souvenirs related to the wedding," he said.
The response was enthusiastic. All 50 souvenirs Gignac made sold out within 24 hours of going on sale. The profit he earned from this was about $1,250, or approximately 1.88 million won.
"I plan to sell more items going forward," Gignac said. "I wanted to commemorate a cultural moment in New York. I wanted to create a small time capsule capturing a special moment."
The couple's wedding is estimated to have cost about 75 billion won. The venue was decorated with a garden theme, and about 1,000 guests attended, including Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant, Emma Stone, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Stevie Nicks and Gigi Hadid.
Actor Adam Sandler, who is close to the couple, officiated the ceremony. Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney reportedly took the stage to perform in celebration.
Guests were given return gifts such as handkerchiefs embroidered with the couple's initials and wedding-related information. A prize event was also held at the reception, with prizes including a Chevrolet Chevelle used on the couple's first date and a Chanel bag worth about 10 million won.
